For those of you who have been following the sofa saga on my Instagram stories, you’ll know I’ve been bitching about our old sofa for literal YEARS. From the moment it arrived from Wayfair, it just wasn’t right.

In hindsight, I should never have ordered it without sitting on it first. I should also have sent it back, but it just seemed like too much of a faff and I thought they wouldn’t take it as I’d already put the legs on – damn my overly polite self sometimes!

Within a few months, you could feel the frame through the seat cushion, which was lumpy and already coming apart at the seams. Every time we had people over, I would immediately apologise about the state of the sofa before I mentioned anything else, suggesting extra cushions or a different chair where they’d be more comfortable.

Although also designed to be a sofa bed, the first time we put it up and attempted to lie on it, we realised that when folded down, the back had no support and without another person lying next to you, the whole thing would just tip over, leaving you on the floor… Less than ideal!

When it got to the point that even the dog refused to curl up on it without several cushions underneath, I knew it was time for an upgrade. With several stern words from Felix about refusing to buy a new one without having sat on it first, I started scouring the internet for sofa showrooms we could visit, determined to be uncompromising on either style or comfort.

After lusting after a few pieces on West Elm that were way outside our budget, we finally settled on giving the Scott Sofa from a try. As my parents live in the Midlands, we went up to visit them at the beginning of December, which seemed like the perfect excuse to pop over to MADE’s showroom at the Birmingham Mailbox. On arriving, we immediately saw the Scott sofa in a lovely navy velvet and spent a good 20 minutes sat on it, discussing how comfy it was and with me attempting to convince Felix that a velvet sofa was a great idea. We couldn’t agree on a fabric, so decided to think about it over Christmas and see if it might go into the sale in the meantime.

Although it’s a little big for our current space, there’s a house move on the horizon later this year so it seemed silly to buy a smaller sofa only to have a bigger space soon (more on that to come!). With velvet firmly vetoed by Felix, we decided to take the plunge in the Boxing Day sale and buy the Scott three-seater in the grey basketweave fabric. And I am obsessed with it!

It’s crazy comfy, and really draws attention in the centre of the room, and I’m just so pleased with it. Although it did take about a month to arrive, the delivery itself was so quick and easy, and it took me less than 5 minutes to unwrap it and screw the legs on, and it was light enough for me to easily flip it right way up without help.

I would 100% recommend MADE to anyone thinking about a sofa or other furniture purchase; you get a really well-made piece of furniture, and their customer service team are amazing. Our sofa actually was reduced further after we bought it but before it shipped, and they refunded me the difference within 20 minutes of me contacting them!

So, what do you guys think of our new living room addition? Any and all styling suggestions welcome – I think playing around with cushions and throws on it is going to be my new favourite activity!

*this post is not sponsored and the sofa was not gifted, I just really loved our experience with MADE! All opinions my own, as always.
